The Designer Returns to His Masterpiece
In the mid-1950s, a 21-year-old Peter Brock became the youngest designer on staff at General Motors. His sketch would become the blueprint for the iconic second-generation Chevrolet Corvette, famously known as the “Split-Window” Stingray. Now, nearly 70 years later, Brock has revisited his most famous work, collaborating with several tuning ateliers to create what he calls a “modern interpretation” of the classic.
Design Evolution: Classic Form, Modern Function
Brock’s redesign honors the original style while thoughtfully enhancing functionality:
- Fixed LED headlights replace the original pop-up units.
- Formerly decorative air intakes are now functional for optimized airflow.
- Chrome details have been swapped for darker, more contemporary alternatives.
- The stunning Azzurro California Blue paint is borrowed from Ferrari’s color palette.
Under the Skin: Cutting-Edge Performance
This restomod is far more than just a pretty face. It has been comprehensively rebuilt with modern performance at its core.

- Added modern amenities like a climate control system.
- A tilt-adjustable steering column for improved ergonomics.
An Unpredictable Auction and a Second Chance
The auction at Mecum in mid-January will not only feature Brock’s restomod but also another notable second-generation Corvette. This particular 2014 record-holder for C2 prices has been unsuccessfully offered for sale three times already in 2025, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming event. No pre-auction estimate has been disclosed for Brock’s one-of-a-kind creation.

The restomod retains the classic C2 Stingray silhouette but updates it with modern LED lighting and a bespoke Azzurro California Blue paint.
A supercharged 6.2L V8 delivering 725 HP now resides under the classic hood line.

💬 From the Designer’s Hand: The Ultimate Reimagining
This is a story with real soul. Peter Brock returning to his masterpiece after nearly 70 years is something that happens once in an automotive generation. This isn’t just a restomod; it’s a “designer’s testament”: what would the creator change in his own legend, with all the technology of the 21st century at his fingertips?
The smartest part? He kept the soul perfectly intact. The Ferrari blue and darkened trim are respectful updates, but keeping that iconic silhouette sacred was the right call. The real magic is underneath: that C7 Corvette chassis transforms this from a beautiful classic into a car you can actually drive hard with modern confidence.
Watching this at auction will be fascinating. Is its value in the 725 supercharged horsepower, or in the unique signature on the dashboard? For a collector, this is a chance to own not just a car, but a completed chapter in design history.
